Former Super Eagles midfielder and former General Manager of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Dimeji Lawal, has penned an emotional tribute to Chief Adegboyega Onigbinde, a former Super Eagles coach, who passed away at the age of 88 on Monday.
Lawal, in the tribute, honored Onigbinde, whom he describes as a man who didn't just coach football but taught a generation of footballers how to believe in themselves.
He wrote: "A Farewell to a Legend, Chief Adegboyega Onigbinde (1938-2026).
"Today, the final whistle blows for a man who didn't just coach football; he taught us how to believe in ourselves.
"Chief Adegboyega Onigbinde was more than a tactician; he was a bridge between generations of Nigerian talent.
"From the dusty pitches of Modakeke to the grand stages of the FIFA World Cup, he carried the green and white with unmatched grace.
"He proved that excellence knows no borders and that indigenous knowledge is a force to be reckoned with. Rest well, Chief."
The late Onigbinde was the Nigerian coach who led the country to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan/Korea.
