Nigerian environmentalist, fashion designer and Planet 3R founder, Adejoke Lasisi, is celebrating her 40th birthday with a powerful statement on creativity, sustainability and waste recycling.

Lasisi shared beautiful pictures of herself on Friday, August 14, 2026, alongside a short birthday message thanking God for the gift of life.

“Happy 40th birthday to the Waste Queen herself,” she wrote, expressing gratitude for life and the journey so far.
Adding a remarkable touch to the celebration, Lasisi revealed that her entire birthday outfit was created from more than 4,000 discarded pure water sachets by Planet 3R.

Her unusual birthday fashion statement reflects the philosophy that has made her widely recognised in Nigeria’s environmental and creative space — turning waste into useful and beautiful products.

Lasisi founded Planet 3R, a social enterprise focused on converting plastic and textile waste into eco-friendly products through the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

The organisation also trains women and youths in waste recycling and sustainable enterprise.

Her journey into recycling has attracted national and international attention. She has been featured by major media organisations and recognised for combining traditional weaving skills with environmental innovation.
Lasisi began learning aso-oke weaving from her mother at age nine and later transformed those skills into an innovative recycling venture.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, she intensified her work with discarded pure water sachets, turning them into fabrics, bags, footwear and other products.

Her latest creation adds another colourful chapter to that journey — proving once again that what many consider waste can become fashion, value and inspiration.

At 40, Adejoke Lasisi is not just celebrating another year. She is wearing her environmental message.
