The State Director of Security, Department of State Services (DSS), Oyo State Command, Mr. R.A. Adelakun, on Tuesday called for rapid damage control in digital operations.
Adelakun made this call during the unveiling of a strategic partnership with Nigeria's first social media platform, 2geda.
The initiative, aimed at enhancing digital safety, cybersecurity awareness, and responsible online engagement across Nigeria, underscores both parties' commitment to maintaining a healthy and controlled digital space in the country.
Speaking during the meeting, Adelakun cautioned against the dangers of delays in damage control for digital operations, stressing the need for proactive safety measures to protect users and safeguard national interests online.
He further emphasized the significance of focusing on real-time facts, developing local content, and promoting a positive narrative about Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adelakun urged stakeholders to “put Nigeria first” by collaborating to secure the nation’s digital space and counter misinformation.
In the same vein, the DSS Director pledged continued partnership and support for 2geda, assuring the company of the agency’s commitment to safeguarding its operations and the broader Nigerian digital ecosystem.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, 2geda CEO Smith Emeka Eze, popularly known as Internet Lord, emphasized the importance of cybersecurity, information management, and swift intelligence gathering.
Eze, during his visit to the DSS Oyo State Headquarters, was accompanied by a team that included Engr. Wisdom Mbila, Mr. Tobi Olugbodi, Ms. Tiwalayo Kelani, and Engr. Peter Adetunji.
The young digital guru noted that the partnership is poised to bring about the necessary awareness for the betterment of the industry and society at large.
According to him, the partnership marks a significant step toward securing Nigeria’s online community and promoting responsible digital citizenship as the country advances technologically while striving for inclusive digital safety.
Commending the DSS for what he described as its forward-thinking approach to collaboration, Eze reiterated 2geda’s commitment to youth engagement, counter-radicalization, and digital literacy.
He emphasized that 2geda will continue to support national efforts to create a safer online space, particularly for internet users who lack the means to defend themselves against cyber threats.
Eze also revealed that the platform is developing tools to make e-petitions and online civic engagement more accessible, thereby strengthening citizen participation and accountability in Nigeria’s digital landscape.
Also speaking on behalf of 2geda, Engr. Wisdom Mbila described the platform as the first indigenous social media network with multifunctional capabilities, integrating social interaction, e-commerce, ticketing, and business networking.
