Why Oyo APC Leaders Respect Zacch Adedeji

The name Zacch Adedeji is far from unfamiliar within the corridors of power in Oyo State.

He has always been a major stakeholder in the state, and now one of the most powerful and influential men in this dispensation at the national level.

He is one of the most performing political appointees in the President Tinubu-led administration as the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS).

All these, coupled with his brilliance, leadership skills, and generosity, are what have endeared Zacch to the hearts of many in Oyo State, particularly the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It also explains his influence in the state's politics, as well as why he is well-loved and respected, and now arguably the most talked-about personality, especially in APC.

Another reason why Zacch is well-loved and respected is the fact that despite his high-power status, he remains very humble and accessible.

He is naturally a capacity builder and a philanthropist and understands power and its intricacies.

But how did Zacch actually warm himself to the consciousness of the vibrant and often tempestuous landscape of Oyo State politics?

Zacch has always showcased himself as a first-class product, both in academics and in all the public positions he has found himself in.

Even before his journey into the public sector, Zacch had proved his mettle in the corporate world.

He stood head and shoulders above many of his peers at Procter & Gamble (P&G), where he served as the Corporate Finance Manager for West Africa and led the complex SAP Implementation Project.

He, however, cut his public sector teeth under the administration of the late former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, where he served as the Commissioner for Finance.

Zacch was just 33 when Ajimobi made him a commissioner, serving for four years. This is coupled with many consultation jobs he has handled for many state governments and federal government parastatals, which speaks volumes about how highly proficient Zacch is.

He also served as the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), where he established the Nigeria Sugar Institute.

Prior to his current role, he served as the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Revenue, a position that allowed him to design the blueprints for the 2026 tax reforms.

In September 2023, he was appointed to lead the agency (then FIRS), which has now fully transitioned into the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) under his watch.

In all these, Zacch still makes himself available for his immediate constituency despite his very busy schedule. He is not called the 'King of Boys' for nothing, as he is a prominent figure whose influence is both pervasive and profound.
Of course, Zacch's prominence stems from a confluence of factors, not least his perceived strategic acumen and quiet but firm leadership.

Whispers and open discussions alike suggest his significant sway within APC in Oyo State.

Central to these discussions is the widespread belief that Zacch is the silent force behind the emerging push for Senator Sharafadeen Alli to emerge as a consensus candidate for Oyo APC in the 2027 governorship race.

This alignment is further solidified by the purported backing of Zacch's younger brother as Alli's running mate, a move that would undoubtedly consolidate a formidable political bloc.

Sources within the party, speaking on condition of anonymity, often highlight Zacch's exceptional intelligence.

"He sees several steps ahead," one chieftain remarked, "and his counsel is always invaluable, especially in these delicate times of political maneuvering."

His leadership skills are frequently lauded, not just for his ability to direct but for his capacity to unite disparate factions, a critical asset in the often-fragmented world of party politics.

Beyond the strategic chessboard, Zacch's appeal is deeply rooted in his character.

His renowned generosity has endeared him to a broad spectrum of the populace.

From community development initiatives to personal acts of kindness, Zacch has consistently demonstrated a commitment to the welfare of others.

This benevolence, coupled with his intellectual prowess and unassuming demeanor, has garnered him immense respect, not only from the seasoned elders who appreciate his wisdom but also from the youth who see him as a beacon of hope and a testament to principled leadership.

As the political temperature in Oyo State continues to rise, Zacch remains a central figure, a testament to the power of influence built on intelligence, leadership, and a genuine connection with the people.

His shadow, whether overt or subtle, is undoubtedly shaping the future trajectory of Oyo APC.
