A concerned member of the Obara Ruling House, Prince Ayokangun Onatola, has called on the Ogun State Government to immediately commence the process for the fresh selection of the Alakenne of Ikenne-Remo, following the recent judgment of the Supreme Court.
In a letter dated June 20, 2026, and addressed to the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Onatola appealed for urgent government intervention, urging the appropriate ministry or parastatal to put in place the necessary machinery for the selection of a new Alakenne in line with the apex court’s ruling.
The royal family member referenced a newspaper publication on the matter and stated that the people of Ikenne are eagerly awaiting the government’s prompt compliance with the Supreme Court’s decision.

He argued that, having lost at the nation’s highest court, all parties should now respect the final judgment and allow the lawful process for selecting a new traditional ruler to proceed without further delay.
Onatola also warned that any continued delay in implementing the judgment could result in legal action against the governor for alleged contempt of court.

According to him, such a suit could also seek to involve the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the governor’s anticipated participation in the 2027 Ogun East Senatorial election.
