"There Are Lots To Explain", PDP Stalwart Diran Odeyemi Slams Makinde's Wife On Bodija Explosion Scandal Comments

A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Diran Odeyemi, has shaded Engr. Tamunominini Makinde, wife of the Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, concerning her involvement in the scandal surrounding the disbursement of Bodija explosion support fund from the Federal Government.

Mrs. Makinde had posted on her Facebook page what she described as the true position of things as far as the disbursement of the support fund is concerned.

She wrote, "N30 Billion Bodija Bomb Blast Fund: Setting the Record Straight

Recent discussions and questions surrounding the N30 billion released so far for the Bodija Estate bomb blast compensation have made it necessary to clearly set the record straight and separate facts from assumptions.

First and foremost, it has now been firmly established that GSM has nothing whatsoever to do with the direct handling, management, or disbursement of the N30 billion released so far. Any narrative suggesting otherwise is misleading and does not reflect the reality on ground.

The funds are not under GSM’s control. Instead, a properly constituted Bodija Estate Bomb Blast Committee has been set up to oversee the management, allocation, and disbursement of the compensation funds. This committee is fully responsible for how the money is spent and to whom compensation is paid.

Even more reassuring is the existence of a Trust Fund, which adds an extra layer of transparency and accountability to the entire process. The Trust Fund is managed by a representative of Bodija Estate, alongside two highly reputable Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) and a former Deputy Governor. These are individuals with proven integrity, professional standing, and public credibility.

This structure clearly shows that the process was deliberately designed to be insulated from political interference and personal control. GSM’s decision to hand everything over to an independent committee was not accidental; it was a smart, responsible, and statesmanlike move aimed at ensuring fairness, transparency, and public confidence.

Therefore, anyone seeking details about how the N30 billion has been spent so far, or how compensation is being disbursed, should direct their inquiries to the Bodija Estate Bomb Blast Committee. They are the statutory body empowered to provide answers, records, and clarifications."

Obviously not swayed by the First Lady's explanations, Diran Odeyemi hit the comment section to view his displeasure.

The journalist turned-politician, known for his outspoken nature, did not mince words, implying that the First Lady's intervention, particularly in a matter of such gravity, signals an underlying complexity and potential lack of clear answers from official channels. 

"When a 1st lady becomes a spokesperson you sure know there are lots to explain. Speak more ma," he remarked.

Odeyemi's is one of the many voices that have spoken against how the Governor Makinde-led administration had handled the Federal government's support fund for the devastating bomb blast incident that claimed some lives and destroyed millions of properties at Bodija almost a year ago.

The Oyo State government has come under a serious criticism after its initial denial of the amount released and later confirmation that the Federal government only disbursed N30 billion as against N50 billion claimed by the former Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.
