Ogogo Battles Stage 4 Cancer, Daughters Cry Out for Urgent Medical Help

Veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, is battling stage-four cancer, with his daughters making an emotional appeal for urgent medical intervention to save their father.

Kira and Lima Taiwo broke down in separate social media videos on Monday as they appealed to Nigerians, medical experts and healthcare facilities capable of handling advanced cancer cases to come to their father’s aid.

Kira, in her tearful appeal, disclosed that Ogogo’s cancer had reached stage four and said the hospital currently attending to him had informed the family that it could no longer continue his chemotherapy.

“My daddy, Taiwo Hassan, is battling Stage 4 cancer,” Kira said, pleading with anyone who could provide appropriate treatment to reach out to the family.

Her sister, Lima, also appealed for help, revealing that the family only became aware of the seriousness of their father’s condition about three weeks ago.

According to her, Ogogo’s physical appearance had initially given little indication of how severe his illness was. She said his condition had since deteriorated, leaving the family desperately searching for a medical team willing to take over his care.

“We’re not here to ask for money,” Lima stressed, making it clear that what the family urgently needs is access to medical expertise and a facility capable of treating the veteran actor.

Kira echoed the same appeal, saying the family was not seeking financial donations but a solution that could give their father another chance.

She also expressed gratitude to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for supporting the family and helping to settle Ogogo’s medical bills during the difficult period.

Her plea became particularly emotional as she described the pain her father was experiencing, saying she had never seen him in such a condition.

“He’s saying that he doesn’t want to die. Please, I’ve never seen my daddy in that kind of pain before,” she said in a heartbreaking appeal.

Ogogo, 66, is one of the most recognisable faces of Yoruba cinema. Born Taiwo Hassan, he has enjoyed a career spanning more than four decades and has featured in over 300 films, earning a reputation as one of the enduring figures of Nigeria’s indigenous film industry.

His career began in 1981, and he eventually left his job at the water corporation to pursue acting full-time. Over the years, he has worked as an actor, producer, director and screenwriter, featuring in notable productions including Owo Blow, Omo Ghetto, Aníkúlápó and Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre.

For an actor who has entertained generations and contributed immensely to the growth of Yoruba-language cinema, news of his health battle has triggered widespread concern among colleagues, fans and well-wishers.

As his daughters continue their desperate search for help, their message is simple and urgent: they are not asking for money; they are asking for someone, somewhere, with the expertise and capacity to treat their father.

Kira’s final plea captured the desperation gripping the family: “Please, I don’t want my daddy to die.”

At a time when every possible medical option matters, Ogogo’s family is hoping that their cry for help will reach the right people before it is too late.
