Oyo is abuzz with anticipation as the planning committee unveils a three-day itinerary to mark the First Coronation Anniversary of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I (Iku Baba Yeye), the Alaafin of Oyo.
This historic celebration promises a blend of community development, spiritual reflection, and traditional festivities, commemorating the highly revered Yoruba monarch's first year on the throne.
The events are scheduled to commence on Friday, April 10th, at 11:00 AM with the Commissioning of the Alaafin's Ultra-Modern Community Health Centre.
This significant project underscores the monarch's commitment to the welfare of his people. Later in the day, at 1:45 PM, a Thanksgiving at the Mosque will be held, offering a moment of spiritual gratitude.
Saturday, April 11th, will be the highlight of the celebration, featuring the Coronation Anniversary Celebration at 10:00 AM.
This will include a Chieftaincy Installation, a revered tradition that further strengthens the kingdom's leadership structure.
The anniversary concludes on Sunday, April 12th, with a Thanksgiving Service at the Church at 10:00 AM, bringing the commemorative activities to a spiritual close.
"The general public, especially the sons and daughters of Oyo, well-wishers, and invited guests, are warmly encouraged to attend and partake in this momentous occasion, celebrating the first year of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I's reign," the planning committee announced in a press statement.
Oba Akeem Owoade, a Nigerian-Canadian mechanical engineer and entrepreneur, was officially crowned as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo in a grand coronation ceremony on Saturday, 5 April, 2025.
