Adeleke Names Aremo Kunle Alao Osun SUBEB Chairman

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has appointed Aremo Adekunle Alao, popularly known as Lele, as the new Executive Chairman of the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in another major assignment for the experienced politician and administrator.

The appointment, which took effect from July 1, 2026, was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Teslim Igbalaye.

Adeleke congratulated Alao and charged him to bring his wealth of experience to bear on the effective implementation of SUBEB’s mandate.

Alao’s appointment comes with considerable experience in both state and federal public service.

Before his latest assignment, he served as the Federal Commissioner representing Osun State at the Public Complaints Commission, a position he held after previously serving as a commissioner twice in the Osun State Government.

His political and public service career has made him a familiar figure in Osun, where he is also regarded as an outstanding socialite with recognition across the Southwest.

Before his federal appointment, Alao had served as Commissioner for Agriculture and held another commissioner-level position in the state, giving him experience in managing government institutions and implementing public policies.

His educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Jos, an MBA in Finance from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, as well as postgraduate qualifications in public policy and public administration.

Interestingly, his return to Osun government comes at a time when his political future had generated considerable interest.

Reports earlier indicated that Alao had resigned his position at the Public Complaints Commission amid moves to pursue the Osun Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 elections under the Accord Party.

His new SUBEB appointment has consequently added another twist to his political trajectory, shifting the immediate focus from electoral ambitions to the management of basic education across Osun State.

As SUBEB chairman, Alao will oversee an institution at the centre of the state’s basic education system, with responsibilities covering areas such as primary and junior secondary education, school infrastructure, teacher-related programmes and the implementation of various education interventions.

The assignment is therefore expected to place his administrative experience under a different kind of scrutiny, as the impact of SUBEB’s policies is felt directly by pupils, teachers, parents and communities across the state.

For Alao, the new appointment marks a return to the Osun political and administrative space after his federal service, but this time with the responsibility of helping shape the foundation of education for thousands of children across the state.

With his experience in both state and federal government, expectations will be high that he will translate his years in public service into practical improvements in the quality, accessibility and administration of basic education in Osun.
