Sustained military operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have triggered a 213 per cent increase in terrorist surrenders across the North-East Theatre of Operations.
According to the Theatre Command, the surge was recorded over the past week as troops intensified ground operations, targeted terrorist positions and disrupted logistics and supply routes.
The development was contained in a statement signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
Two high-profile terrorist members also surrendered to troops on Wednesday. They reportedly came with arms, ammunition and other military items, further indicating the impact of sustained military pressure on terrorist ranks.
In another development, several terrorists surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion in Bama on August 7 at New Abaram. Their decision followed sustained military operations and internal disagreements within the terrorist enclave.
The group was screened after surrendering. Mobile phones and other items were recovered before they were handed over for further action in line with established procedures.
According to the statement, the rising number of surrenders points to growing fractures within terrorist ranks. It also reflects declining morale and diminishing capacity to sustain prolonged operations.Military authorities said the gains were driven by a multi-dimensional strategy combining offensive ground operations, precision engagements and disruption of terrorist logistics.
By restricting the movement, regrouping and replenishment of terrorist elements, troops have continued to weaken their operational capacity across the theatre.
Operation HADIN KAI said it would maintain pressure on terrorist groups while providing appropriate channels for those willing to surrender.
The Theatre Command also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
