NDLEA Busts N39bn Cocaine Cartel, Arrests ‘KC Luxury’ at Lagos Airport

A major international cocaine trafficking network with Nigeria as a key transit point to the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia has been dismantled by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), with the alleged Nigerian kingpin arrested moments before he could flee the country.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), disclosed this on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in Lagos, describing the operation as one of NDLEA’s most significant narcotics investigations in recent years.

At the heart of the breakthrough was the seizure of 184.50 kilogrammes of cocaine, concealed in a consignment being processed through a courier logistics channel in Lagos.

According to Marwa, the shipment represented the largest cocaine seizure recorded in a courier company in Nigeria, with the syndicate standing to make an estimated ₦39 billion from its international distribution network.

Following the interception, Marwa ordered the immediate constitution of a Special Investigation Team to go beyond the seizure and uncover the people, companies and financial structures behind the shipment.

Working with the management of the courier company involved, investigators gradually pieced together a sophisticated network of intermediaries and individuals allegedly responsible for preparing and moving cocaine shipments out of Nigeria.

One of those arrested was Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a staff member of the logistics company through which the consignment was processed.

Investigators, according to NDLEA, established that Kehinde maintained a direct and sustained relationship with the cartel’s Nigerian coordinator.

He allegedly packaged and processed consignments for the syndicate before routing them to the UK, Europe and Asia in exchange for cash payments.

More attention, however, was drawn to Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known online as “KC Luxury”, who NDLEA identified as the alleged Nigerian arrowhead of the international operation.

Afolabi reportedly presented himself publicly as a businessman and social media influencer involved in gold, jewellery and luxury goods.

Behind that glamorous profile, investigators allege, was a criminal enterprise operating a cocaine pipeline stretching from South America through Nigeria and onward to destinations across Europe and Asia.

His arrest came dramatically at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. Marwa disclosed that credible intelligence indicated Afolabi was preparing to leave Nigeria for Paris on a business-class flight.

On the night of August 13, NDLEA operatives moved in and arrested him at the boarding gate before he could escape.

He was allegedly found with €7,750, £2,800 and ₦100,000 in cash, alongside expensive jewellery which investigators are examining as possible proceeds of the illicit operation.

A subsequent search of his luxury apartment on Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, also led to the recovery of exotic vehicles.

Investigators have also uncovered what NDLEA described as a sophisticated concealment system used by the syndicate.

According to the agency, members of the cartel allegedly operated with false identities to hide the true consignors of cocaine shipments, while financial facilitators moved billions of naira on their behalf.

International links are also emerging from the investigation, with NDLEA revealing that some alleged members of the same syndicate in the United Kingdom have already been arrested by British authorities.

For NDLEA, the investigation is therefore far from over.

Rather than treating the 184.50kg seizure as an isolated drug interception, the agency says it is using the breakthrough to pursue the wider network, its financiers, facilitators, international collaborators and other individuals connected to the trafficking chain.

Marwa’s disclosure signals a broader offensive against transnational drug syndicates exploiting Nigeria’s logistics and commercial channels to move cocaine to lucrative overseas markets.

With the alleged mastermind now in custody, investigators are expected to deepen the probe into the cartel’s operations, financial flows and international connections as NDLEA moves to dismantle the network beyond its Nigerian base.
