President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections, placing former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, at the helm as Director-General and Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State as secretary.
Tinubu will chair the campaign council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima as vice chairman, while APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as another vice chairman in a high-powered structure that brings together senior party leaders, governors, legislators and key figures from the President’s political machinery.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for the presidency, who has also been assigned the new responsibility of Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
Yari’s appointment places the former governor and senator at the centre of the APC’s battle to retain the presidency, while Uzodimma’s emergence as secretary gives the campaign council a strong governing-party presence as preparations intensify for the 2027 contest.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni have been named deputy director-generals for the southern and northern campaign operations, working alongside Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau.
Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole will oversee mobilisation as deputy director-general, while the President’s Chief of Staff will take charge of administration in the same capacity. James Abiodun Faleke, a key figure in the 2022/2023 campaign, is also returning as deputy director-general for election planning, coordination and monitoring.
Faleke will coordinate a network of zonal directors covering the six geopolitical zones, with Senator Olushola Adeyeye assigned to the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme to the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife to the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe to the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso to the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi to the North-East.
Legal affairs will be headed by Muiz Adeyemi Banire, with Dr Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala as deputies. The directorate will also feature senior legal and political figures, including Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Prince Lateef Fagbemi, former Katsina State Governor Ibrahim Shema, Worgu Boms and Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh.
Media and strategic communication will receive particular attention, with Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris Malagi appointed Coordinating Director alongside Dele Alake, Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu. Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka will serve as coordinating deputy directors.
Abdulaziz AbdulAziz, Temitope Ajayi, Arabinrin Aderonke and Frederick Nwabufor have been appointed coordinating secretaries of the media directorate, while Segun Dada returns as Director of New Media, the same role he occupied during the 2022 campaign. Solomon Arowolo will serve as secretary of the New Media directorate.
The campaign council has also unveiled a five-member spokespersons’ team led by Dele Alake, with Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda serving alongside him.
Advisers to the campaign chairman will include former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, veteran journalist and politician Chief Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, former APC chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.
Unveiling the council, Tinubu charged members to work tirelessly towards securing victory for the APC in the January 2027 elections, while urging directorate heads to accommodate other party members who may not have been formally listed but are willing to contribute to the campaign.
The President also sought to frame the coming contest around his administration’s economic record, declaring that Nigeria had moved beyond its difficult period and was approaching the benefits of a more prosperous economy.
“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet—let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation,” Tinubu said, while challenging the campaign team to defeat forces he accused of seeking to take Nigeria backwards.
With the structure now unveiled, the APC has effectively moved its 2027 presidential machinery into a more organised phase, setting the stage for what is expected to be a fiercely contested battle for the nation’s highest political office.
