Check Out Oluwo of Iwo’s New Project, Golden Gate

The Oluwo of Iwo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, popularly known as Ilufemiloye, has unveiled plans for another major development project aimed at giving Iwo a more distinctive identity and enhancing its appeal to visitors.

The project, known as Golden Gate, is expected to be constructed at the entrance of Iwo along the Iwo-Ibadan Expressway.

According to the concept behind the project, the structure is designed to serve as a landmark gateway to Iwo while also becoming a potential tourist attraction for residents, visitors and travellers entering the ancient town.

The proposed Golden Gate is expected to feature the names of notable and philanthropic sons and daughters of Iwo, with the names prominently displayed in gold on the structure.

The initiative is being presented as part of the Oluwo’s broader efforts to promote the development, beautification and visibility of Iwo and, by extension, Osun State.

Project Designed as Landmark
Plans for the proposed structure indicate that it would be a significant landmark, with its architectural features designed to make a strong impression on visitors approaching the town.

Another major attraction would be the lighting system planned for the project. The wings at the top of the gate were expected to be illuminated with LED lights powered by solar energy.

With the proposed commencement date set for October 2016, attention was already turning to how the project could be successfully delivered.

The initiative also called for support from well-meaning indigenes of Iwo, both at home and in the diaspora, particularly through financial and moral contributions.

Supporters of the project believe the Golden Gate
It could become more than an entrance structure, potentially serving as a symbol of Iwo’s history, identity and aspirations for development.

If successfully completed, the landmark was expected to add another distinctive feature to the town’s landscape and contribute to efforts to promote Iwo as a destination of cultural and tourism interest.
