Ajimobi Assents to Bill Creating 35 LCDAs in Oyo

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has assented to the bill providing the legal framework for the creation of 35 Local Government Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state.

Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the state executive council meeting, explaining that the governor signed the legislation on October 6, 2016.

According to Arulogun, the law, titled “A Law to Further Amend the Local Government Law, 2001,” was passed by the Oyo State House of Assembly and gave legal backing to the creation of the LCDAs.

He said the governor gave his assent after extensive deliberations on the legislation, adding that the state government would constitute a committee to develop modalities for the smooth take-off of the new administrative areas.

Arulogun recalled that the state government had announced the creation of the LCDAs on August 23, 2016, following a request from the House of Assembly for the executive arm to consider establishing the new areas as a means of accelerating development at the grassroots.
