The Oyo State Government has announced plans to commence a statewide certification exercise for building plans as part of efforts to ensure that structures across the state comply with existing physical planning laws.
According to the government, the exercise would also help check the proliferation of illegal structures and petrol stations operating without the required approvals.
A task force set up to tackle illegal petrol stations and other developments contravening Oyo State’s physical planning regulations was scheduled to begin the certification exercise on Monday, October 24, 2016.
In a statement jointly signed by the Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Physical Planning and Environment, Tpl. Waheed Gbadamosi, and the Senior Special Assistant on Environment, Mr. Tope Obileye, residents were advised to make their approved building plans available for inspection and certification.
Government explained that the exercise was aimed at ensuring that approved structures conformed with the relevant planning requirements and that developments across the state were carried out in an orderly manner.
It warned that structures found without the necessary approvals would be dealt with in accordance with the appropriate sanctions provided under the state’s existing laws.
Residents and property owners were therefore urged to cooperate with officials carrying out the exercise and make relevant documentation available when requested.
