“Davido Should Tell The World What Happened To Tagbo” — Caroline Danjuma

Actress and businesswoman Caroline Danjuma has called on music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, to explain what happened to his late friend, Tagbo Umeike, on the night he died.

Danjuma, who spoke in an interview, said her earlier public criticism of Davido was not an accusation that he killed Tagbo, but a demand for answers over the circumstances surrounding his death.

“Firstly, I would like to address this whole razzmatazz about David killing Tagbo and that I said so. I never said that,” she said, stressing that she had only called on Davido to account for Tagbo’s whereabouts.

According to her, the last time she spoke with Tagbo was on the eve of his birthday, when he called her after she returned from a church programme and said he was coming to see her.

Danjuma said she subsequently fell asleep while waiting for him and woke up after midnight. Since Tagbo’s birthday was the following day, she tried calling him to wish him well but discovered that his phone was switched off.

She said she sent him a birthday message and continued trying to reach him the following morning, but his phone remained switched off.

Her concerns, according to Danjuma, heightened later that day when a childhood friend of Tagbo contacted her and began asking questions about him. She said she subsequently learnt that Tagbo had died.

Danjuma said she contacted members of Tagbo’s family to verify the information and was initially unable to establish what had happened or where his body had been taken.

She also said she was told that Tagbo had allegedly consumed a large quantity of tequila as part of a bet before his death, a claim she found difficult to believe because, according to her, he was not a heavy drinker.

“I said that cannot be true. Tagbo cannot drink even a glass of Hennessy because he has a light brain like me,” she said.

Danjuma further alleged that information she received from people who were at different locations that night suggested that Tagbo had been in the company of Davido and members of his entourage before his death.

According to her account, she was later told that Tagbo became intoxicated and wanted to drive, but was prevented from doing so. She alleged that he was subsequently left inside a vehicle and was later found gasping for air.

Danjuma stressed that these details were information relayed to her by other people and that she was seeking clarification on what actually happened.

She said Tagbo was eventually taken to the General Hospital on Lagos Island, where he was pronounced dead, but those who allegedly brought him to the hospital left before providing information about the circumstances surrounding his arrival.

Danjuma claimed that she and others who went to the hospital were informed that the individuals who brought Tagbo had fled while arrangements were being made to register him.

She said the hospital authorities subsequently directed them to the police because the matter had become a police case.

Frustrated by the lack of information, Danjuma said she took to social media to ask Davido publicly what had happened to Tagbo. According to her, she had previously sent Davido private messages without receiving a response.

She claimed that Davido later contacted her and asked her to remove the social media post, promising to explain what had happened.

Danjuma said she removed the post and asked him to meet them at the police station, but alleged that he did not show up.

She further claimed that Tagbo’s phone and shoes were missing after his death and that some social media posts and videos involving him and Davido had subsequently disappeared.

Danjuma said she was not accusing Davido of killing Tagbo but wanted him to provide information about the events leading to his death.

“We are not calling you a killer, but we need to know what happened to Tagbo. You owe him this because he loved you like a brother,” she said, appealing to anyone with information about the circumstances surrounding Tagbo’s death to come forward.

Danjuma Denies Claim About Tagbo’s Paternity
Danjuma also dismissed claims circulating at the time that Tagbo was the biological father of her daughter, Elizabeth.

She described the allegation as an attempt to divert attention from the questions she had raised over Tagbo’s death.

According to her, she met Tagbo after she had legally separated from her former husband and subsequently began a relationship with him.

Danjuma, however, said her daughter was already three years old when she met Tagbo, making it impossible for him to have been the child’s biological father.

She also questioned the identity of a person referred to in the claims as “Baba”, saying the allegations were being used to discredit her and shift attention away from the circumstances surrounding Tagbo’s death.

“I will address this once and for all. Yes, we were dating, but my daughter is three years old and I only met Tagbo last year, so it is not possible that Tagbo is the father of Elizabeth,” she said.

Danjuma maintained that the focus should remain on establishing what happened to Tagbo and determining the circumstances surrounding his death. “We need justice for Tagbo,” she added.
