Oyo Closes Pete’s Bar & Lounge In Trans Wonderland

The Oyo State Government on Wednesday announced the indefinite closure of Pete’s Bar & Lounge at Trans Wonderland, Ibadan, following an incident that resulted in the death of one of the bar’s patrons.

The Executive Secretary of the Bureau of Investment Promotion and Public Private Partnerships, Mr. Yinka Fatoki, said the management of Trans Wonderland Nigeria Plc communicated the decision to close the bar to the state government on Tuesday.

Fatoki explained that Trans Wonderland management had earlier issued a three-month quit notice to the operator of the bar, effective January 12, 2018, following allegations concerning the public sale and use of illicit drugs by patrons of Pete’s Bar & Lounge within the park.

According to him, the management of Trans Wonderland had also issued a warning letter to the chairman of Pete’s Bar on November 17, 2017, over concerns relating to illicit drugs.

He said the subsequent quit notice followed what the management considered non-compliance with the earlier warning.

Fatoki further disclosed that a scuffle occurred at the bar on February 26, 2018, resulting in an accidental discharge from a security operative who had been invited to help maintain calm and order at the venue.

He said the incident had been reported to the Sango Police Station for further investigation.

The state government said the closure was intended to address concerns surrounding activities at the facility while investigations into the incident continued.
