Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has approved the establishment of a fact-finding committee to review the activities and administration of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti.
The move is part of efforts to reposition the teaching hospital and strengthen its operations as a leading tertiary healthcare institution in the state.
According to a statement issued by Fayemi’s Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, the committee is expected to examine the activities of EKSUTH from 2013 to date and make recommendations to the state government.
Chief (Mrs) Ebun Adejuyigbe will serve as chairman of the committee, while Mr J.A. Obaparusi will serve as secretary.
Other members are Professor Denied Agboola, Professor Simi Odeyinka, Professor Ayo Omotoso, Dr Walter Yemi Olatunbosun, Mr Ayoola Owolabi and Engineer Tunde Alabi.
Among its terms of reference, the committee is expected to examine the leadership and administration of the hospital, including the roles of the Governing Board, Chief Medical Director and other principal officers.
It will also review the hospital’s financial management during the period under consideration, including statutory allocations and internally generated revenue, with a view to determining compliance with relevant regulations.
Another area of focus will be the utilisation of funds, particularly special grants and loans provided for specific projects. The committee is expected to assess the status of such projects and their relevance to any future funding.
The committee will also examine the procedures and structures guiding the discipline of staff, students and interns at the hospital.
Its review is expected to determine whether disciplinary processes have complied with due process and the rule of law.
The committee has been given four weeks to submit its report and recommendations to the state government.
The findings are expected to provide the government with a clearer picture of the hospital’s administration, finances and ongoing projects as efforts continue to strengthen EKSUTH.
