Nearly two decades after the death of renowned Yoruba broadcaster Kola Olawuyi, tragedy has again struck the family with the passing of his widow, Mrs. Abimbola Olawuyi.
Family sources disclosed that Abimbola died on Monday, July 6, 2026, after a brief illness, bringing to a close a life marked by strength, devotion and quiet sacrifice.
Her death comes 19 years after the demise of her husband, the celebrated investigative journalist and broadcaster whose groundbreaking radio and television programmes, Iriri Aye and Nnkan Nbe, earned him widespread acclaim for exposing ritual killings, criminal activities, fraud and other social vices. Kola Olawuyi passed away in March 2007 at the age of 44, leaving behind a grieving audience across Yorubaland.
Following his death, Abimbola assumed responsibility for KOLBIM Communications, the media outfit they jointly established. Although she largely withdrew from public life, she remained committed to preserving her late husband’s legacy while single-handedly raising their four children.
Those who knew her have remembered Abimbola as a caring mother, a resilient woman and the pillar that held the Olawuyi family together through years of loss and hardship.
