The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adio Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, has expressed profound grief over the death of the council’s Organising Secretary, Comrade Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya.
Ajiboye reportedly died days after he was allegedly attacked by gunmen.
Sources close to the union said the respected labour leader succumbed to injuries he sustained during the attack, although the circumstances surrounding the incident have yet to be officially detailed by the authorities.
His death has thrown the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW into mourning, with colleagues, associates and supporters describing it as a tragic loss to the transport union.
Until his death, Toba Ijaya served as the Organising Secretary of the NURTW Lagos State Council and was widely regarded as a committed unionist, respected organiser and loyal advocate for the welfare of members.

In a heartfelt tribute, Sego described the late union leader as a trusted friend, dependable ally and one of the strongest pillars of TeamSego and SegoNation.
“The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable and committed ally,” he said.
He added that Ajiboye was more than an ally, describing him as “a trusted friend, a man of steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment,” whose friendship, support and selfless dedication to the union would forever remain etched in his heart.
Sego extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and the entire NURTW family, praying that Almighty God would forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him eternal rest and give all those affected the strength and fortitude to bear what he described as a painful and irreparable loss.
