The Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, has recorded fresh operational successes across the North-East, rescuing abductees, repelling an attack by ISWAP terrorists, arresting suspected logistics suppliers and recovering weapons, cash and other items linked to insurgent activities.The military, in a statement issued on Wednesday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, said the latest achievements were the result of sustained offensive operations, intelligence-driven missions and coordinated security efforts aimed at crippling terrorist networks in the region.
According to the statement, troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion, while conducting search and rescue operations in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on July 7, rescued two abductees from a terrorist hideout.
The troops also recovered N1.2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities, food items and other logistics believed to have supported terrorist operations. The rescued victims have since been evacuated to a secure location for medical attention and psychosocial care.
In another major operation, troops at the Forward Operating Base, Logomani, in Ngala Local Government Area successfully repelled a coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists.
Although the insurgents briefly breached part of the base’s defensive perimeter during the fierce gun battle, the troops regrouped swiftly, launched a counter-offensive and forced the attackers to retreat with heavy casualties and gunshot wounds.
The military, however, disclosed that one soldier lost his life in the encounter, while two gun trucks and some combat equipment were damaged. It added that the base remains firmly under military control, with reinforcements deployed and exploitation operations ongoing.
Operation HADIN KAI also announced the arrest of a notorious criminal in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State following credible intelligence.
Subsequent operations led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. The suspect remains in military custody as investigations continue.
Similarly, troops of the 149 Battalion arrested two suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.
Recovered from the suspects were cash, a Volkswagen Golf car, construction materials, household items and other supplies believed to have been destined for terrorist elements.
In Wulgo, troops of the 24 Task Force Brigade, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, raided known terrorist enclaves and recovered a sack containing assorted illicit drugs abandoned by fleeing insurgents.
The statement also disclosed that six suspected ISWAP members, alongside their families, voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 192 Battalion in Sector One.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they fled terrorist enclaves in Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide on the Mandara Mountains in Gwoza Local Government Area. Troops recovered N1.541 million, two Tecno mobile phones and other items from the group.
Relatedly, troops arrested another suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP logistics supplier at Molai checkpoint while transporting large quantities of medical supplies without the required clearance.
In Sector Two, troops of the 233 Tank Battalion, in collaboration with local hunters, intercepted another suspected terrorist logistics supplier from Ngirya village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State with five motorcycle tyres believed to be intended for insurgents.
The military said all suspects and recovered exhibits remain in custody for further investigation.
Operation HADIN KAI said the latest breakthroughs highlight the effectiveness of sustained military offensives, actionable intelligence and collaboration with other security agencies and local support groups in dismantling terrorist logistics networks and safeguarding communities across the North-East.
The Theatre Command reiterated its commitment to continuing search and rescue operations until all abducted persons are safely reunited with their families.
It also warned individuals involved in supplying food, fuel, construction materials, transportation or any form of logistics to terrorist groups to immediately desist, stressing that anyone found aiding or collaborating with terrorists would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
