Ajimobi Takes Nigeria’s Voice To UN Crime Congress, Presides Over Session In Abu Dhabi

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to International Organisations in Vienna, Dr. Florence Ajimobi, has taken Nigeria’s diplomatic voice to one of the world’s major gatherings on crime prevention and criminal justice, presiding over a session of the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi.

Representing the African Group as Vice-President of the Congress, Ambassador Ajimobi played a prominent role at the high-level gathering, which brings together governments, international organisations, justice officials, experts and other stakeholders to deliberate on crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law.

Ajimobi shared her participation in the ongoing Congress in a statement, describing it as a privilege to preside over a session and represent the African Group at the global forum.
For the Nigerian diplomat, the Congress provides an important platform for Member States to compare experiences, deepen dialogue and strengthen international cooperation in confronting crime while promoting justice and the rule of law.

The 15th UN Crime Congress is being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and runs from September 26 to October 1, 2026. It is focused on accelerating crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law, with particular attention to protecting people and the planet and achieving the 2030 Agenda in the digital age.
Discussions at the gathering cover a wide range of contemporary security and justice concerns, including organised and transnational crime, cybercrime, drug trafficking, money laundering, terrorism financing, trafficking in persons, emerging criminal threats and the responsible application of technology in criminal justice.

Beyond her role at the Congress, Ambassador Ajimobi also used the international gathering to engage key Nigerian stakeholders involved in the country’s fight against crime and illicit activities.

Among those she met were the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, and the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.).
Such engagements bring Nigeria’s diplomatic representation and domestic law-enforcement institutions into the same international conversation at a time when cooperation across borders remains central to tackling crimes that increasingly transcend national boundaries.

Ajimobi said Nigeria remains committed to strengthening international cooperation and playing its part in global efforts aimed at preventing crime and building safer and more secure societies.

Her participation also adds another dimension to her expanding diplomatic responsibilities in Vienna, where she represents Nigeria before several major international institutions, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Abu Dhabi engagement comes shortly after another major diplomatic development involving Ajimobi, following Nigeria’s election to the 35-member IAEA Board of Governors for the 2026–2028 term and her appointment as Nigeria’s Governor on the Board.
With Nigeria simultaneously deepening its participation in international discussions on crime prevention, nuclear governance and multilateral cooperation, Ambassador Ajimobi’s latest assignment places her once again at a significant global diplomatic forum where national, regional and international interests converge.
