Family members, friends, associates and well-wishers are expected to gather in Ibadan, Oyo State, today, Tuesday, September 22, 2026, for the 41 days prayer and final burial ceremony of Alhaja Suliat Adelakun.
The solemn gathering, which is scheduled for 10:00am prompt, will take place at her residence in the Bashorun area of Ibadan, where prayers will be offered for the repose of her soul and her family will formally mark the conclusion of the burial rites.
Alhaja Suliat Adelakun, nee Jejelola, is the mother of Alhaja Hon. Sekinat Tolanikawo Adelakun Adeniyi, wife of renowned Fuji musician Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere.
For the family, today’s ceremony is expected to be both a moment of remembrance and an opportunity to honour the life and legacy of a woman whose identity extended beyond her immediate family to include her role within the wider community.
Her loved ones have invited relatives, friends, associates and members of the public to join them in prayers as they remember the deceased and commit her soul to the mercy of Almighty Allah.
The family’s message is anchored on the Qur’anic words, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”, meaning, “Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return,” from Qur’an 2:156.
In the spirit of the Islamic tradition of prayer for the departed, the family is also seeking Allah’s forgiveness and mercy for Alhaja Adelakun, praying that her shortcomings be forgiven and that she be granted Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
Among the prayers being offered for her is: “Allahumma ighfir laha warhamha wa ‘afiha wa’fu ‘anha”, asking Allah to forgive her, have mercy upon her, grant her well-being and pardon her.
Family members have also expressed gratitude to those who have stood by them since her passing, while calling on friends, associates and well-wishers to join them at the Bashorun residence for the 41 days prayer and final burial ceremony.
