After three decades of navigating Nigeria’s fast-changing media and entertainment landscape, City People Magazine is set to mark its 30th anniversary with a thought-provoking lecture on the power of building a brand that can stand the test of time.
As part of activities commemorating the landmark anniversary, the magazine will host a special 30th Anniversary Lecture on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the Yoruba Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos, beginning at 4pm.
Leading the intellectual engagement is Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), who will deliver the keynote lecture on the theme, “Building A Brand That Can Stand The Test Of Time.”
The lecture, which promises to go beyond conventional discussions about business and corporate identity, is expected to offer “100 Powerful Insights Beyond the Business to Great Branding.”
For a media brand that has spent 30 years building visibility, influence and a distinctive identity in Nigeria’s competitive publishing industry, the choice of theme adds particular significance to the anniversary celebration.
City People’s three-decade journey has been shaped by its strong presence in celebrity journalism, society reporting, lifestyle, entertainment and coverage of influential personalities, making the anniversary an opportunity to reflect on what it takes for a brand to remain relevant across generations.
Ashimolowo, widely recognised for his work in leadership, entrepreneurship, communication and ministry, is expected to bring his experience to bear as he examines the principles behind creating brands capable of surviving changing times, trends and consumer expectations.
Beyond celebrating longevity, the lecture is expected to focus attention on the more difficult question of sustainability: how organisations can move from simply becoming known to building identities that remain respected, relevant and memorable.
For media professionals, entrepreneurs, business owners, young creatives and established brands, the session is therefore expected to provide practical lessons on reputation, consistency, positioning and long-term brand development.
The anniversary gathering also provides City People with an opportunity to celebrate its journey while looking ahead to the next chapter of its evolution in an increasingly digital media environment.
With Ashimolowo billed to headline the intellectual engagement, City People’s 30th anniversary promises to be more than a celebration of longevity; it is also a reflection on the enduring value of building a brand that can remain relevant long after the excitement surrounding its launch has faded.
