Independence Day: Alli Urges Nigerians to Keep Faith in Nigeria, Backs Tinubu’s Reforms

Oyo State Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator (Dr) Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful about the country’s future, stressing that unity, patriotism and collective responsibility are essential to building a more peaceful and prosperous nation.

Alli, in an Independence Day message issued in Ibadan on Thursday, said the 66th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence provided an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and recommit themselves to the task of nation-building.

He acknowledged the challenges confronting the country but maintained that Nigeria possesses sufficient human and natural resources to emerge as a prosperous and globally competitive nation.

According to him, overcoming the nation’s difficulties requires responsible leadership, active citizenship and sustained cooperation among Nigerians, rather than a loss of confidence in the country.

“Independence Day is not merely a celebration of freedom from colonial rule; it is a solemn reminder of our collective responsibility to preserve, strengthen and improve the Nigeria handed over to us by our founding fathers.

“We must never lose faith in Nigeria. Despite the challenges confronting the nation, our country remains endowed with enormous human and natural resources capable of making it one of the most prosperous nations in the world,” he said.

The APC candidate also called for continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, particularly its ongoing economic reforms, which he said should be allowed to translate into increased production, investment and broader economic opportunities.

Alli appealed to Oyo State residents to support President Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections, arguing that closer political alignment between the Federal Government and an APC-led administration in Oyo State could strengthen coordination in the delivery of development projects and programmes.

Turning to his governorship ambition, Alli said his aspiration was driven by a desire to provide purposeful, inclusive and people-oriented leadership for the state.

He listed education, security, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, youth empowerment, economic development, improved welfare and local government autonomy among the areas his administration would prioritise if elected.

Alli said Oyo State’s strength in agriculture, commerce, industry, tourism and human capital offered significant opportunities that could be unlocked through deliberate and sustainable government policies.

“We are seeking the mandate to build an Oyo State where our children can receive quality education, our farmers can produce without fear, our young people can find opportunities and our communities can benefit from meaningful infrastructure.

“Our campaign is not about political power for its own sake. It is about service, development and restoring greater confidence in the ability of government to improve the lives of our people,” he said.

The governorship candidate further appealed to APC members across the 33 local government areas and 351 wards of Oyo State to maintain unity and work towards the success of all the party’s candidates.

He described the party’s senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates as members of one political team whose collective responsibility was to advance the interests of the state.

Alli congratulated President Tinubu, the Federal Government, governments at all levels and Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary.

He also prayed for lasting peace, improved security and greater prosperity across Nigeria, urging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to building a stronger nation.
