A lawsuit brought by businessman Tunde Ayeni to deny Adaobi Alagwu's baby has been postponed until March 4 by an Abuja customary court. The adjournment was caused by Alagwu's failure to show up for court for the second time on Monday.
Adaobi, a lawyer from Abuja, had previously been called by the court to respond to inquiries on Ayeni's claim, but she was not present on February 11 or 17.
Ayeni's attorney, Silas Onu, submitted a new petition during the most recent court session after withdrawing a previous suit that had been improperly served on Alagwu. In addition to expressing regret for her absence, Alagwu's attorney acknowledged receiving the lawsuit and said they still had time to submit their reply.
Ayeni's lawyer acknowledged that the money she had provided to Alagwu's family had been reimbursed when the court asked about it.
Ayeni, a former chairman of Skye Bank Plc's board of directors, has been in the news due to a paternity dispute with Alagwu, a lawyer from Abuja. According to Alagwu, she and Ayeni started dating in 2019 and had a kid together in the US in 2022.
However, the businessman refuted the accusations and maintained that he "has no connection whatsoever to the child." Before yesterday's court appearance, Ayeni had disputed the veracity of a DNA test that Adaobi Alagwu had produced, claiming it proved his paternity for her child.
According to Alagwu, she and Ayeni started dating in 2019 and had a kid together in the US in 2022. However, the businessman refuted the accusations and maintained that he "has no connection whatsoever to the child." Ayeni's wife Biola said in July 2023 that because of her husband's fame, "runs girls" target him and use "diabolical" methods to entice "unsuspecting and naive victims."
Also, court documents filed by Ayeni’s lawyers admitted that he paid “the customary dowry required to marry Alagwu in 2022, but the marriage didn’t proceed. In 2024, the dowry was returned to Ayeni, who accepted it”.
The dispute, according to the document, led to a summons from a customary court in Abuja, where Ayeni (the complainant) sought to dissolve the customary marriage due to its breakdown.
Reiterating that he has no "biological relationship with Alagwu's child," the businessman is looking for a fresh, independent DNA test to support his claims. "This woman is being half-smart. She is genuinely desperate and is plagued by memories of her careless past. The statement reads, "This desperation is what is driving her on this path to notoriety and eventual shame."
Ayeni said that his stance has been "repeatedly affirmed through official legal documents, including an affidavit," and he denied having a "marital connection to Alagwu."
This desperation will not help Adaobi. She should ask her on multiple dates for DNA testing if she is unsure of her daughter's real father, the statement continued.
