Lagos Polo Club Imposes Indefinite Ban on Billionaire Olu Okeowo After Security Aide's Attack on Staff

The Lagos Polo Club has imposed an indefinite ban on billionaire real estate magnate, Sir Olu Okeowo, the Chairman of Gibraltar Group, following an alleged assault on a club staff member by one of his security aides during a prominent event at the club’s house in Ikoyi last weekend.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by the Club’s Secretary, Mr. Adeyemi Oreagba, Okeowo has been officially prohibited from entering the club premises in any capacity until further notice.

The incident is reported to have occurred on Saturday, October 18, during the Reminisce Event held at the club.

The statement claims that a member of Okeowo’s security team “violently assaulted a staff member while he was carrying out his duties.”

Oreagba emphasized that “this action by the security personnel associated with Sir Olu Okeowo contradicts one of the club’s fundamental rules regarding decorum and member conduct.”

Consequently, the statement declared Okeowo banned from the club grounds, either as a guest or in any other form, until further notice.

The Polo Club’s Main Committee reviewed the situation after corroborating the assault claims through witness accounts and discussions with those involved.

The committee affirmed that members are fully accountable for the behavior of their guests, security staff, and domestic personnel while on club property.

“The Club prioritizes the well-being and respect of all staff,” the statement concluded. “We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for any acts of assault by members or guests.”
