The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) successfully recovered N1.23 billion for the Enugu State government on January 21, 2026.
This significant sum was retrieved from Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited following their failure to deliver on a contract for 22 smart schools.
The EFCC acted on a petition filed February 11, 2025, which alleged fraudulent activity by Sujimoto and its Group Managing Director, Dr. Olasijibomi Ogundele, after an advance payment of N2.29 billion.
The petitioner highlighted the contractor's "persistent nonperformance" and "irremediable breach of the terms of the contract," leading to the diversion of project funds.
EFCC operatives from the Enugu Zonal Directorate swiftly investigated, leading to the recovery.
During the handover, EFCC Zonal Director CE Daniel Isei, representing Chairman Ola Olukoyede, reaffirmed the commission's dedication to recovering misappropriated public funds.
He emphasized that the EFCC would pursue all instances of economic and financial crime, ensuring restitution for victims.
Olukoyede further warned contractors to adhere to the Procurement Act and maintain integrity, vowing to trace and recover every unaccounted kobo belonging to Enugu State.
He stressed that criminalities would lead to prosecution, urging professionalism, due diligence, accountability, and transparency in all public contracts to prevent EFCC intervention.
Onyia, representing Enugu State, commended the EFCC's professionalism and focus despite public distractions.
He lauded the recovery as a testament to effective intergovernmental collaboration and transparency.
