As political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum, supporters of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, have launched a nationwide political movement aimed at building grassroots support for his presidential bid.Operating under the banner of the Seyi Makinde Presidential Network (SMPN) 2027, the group announced an ambitious mobilisation strategy designed to establish political structures across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and the six geopolitical zones, positioning itself as one of the country’s largest grassroots support platforms.
The development comes amid growing speculation over Makinde’s political future and renewed consultations within major political circles as prominent figures begin to position themselves for what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 presidential election.
According to the network, its mission is to rally millions of Nigerians behind what it described as Makinde’s leadership vision, anchored on competence, transparency, accountability, national unity and inclusive governance.
Beyond canvassing support for the Oyo governor, SMPN said it intends to deepen political participation through voter education, civic engagement and issue-based campaigns while encouraging youths, women, professionals, artisans, farmers, market associations, traditional institutions, civil society organisations and members of the diaspora to play active roles in Nigeria’s democratic process.
A major highlight of the initiative is “Operation 300,000 Votes Per State,” a nationwide mobilisation programme expected to coordinate volunteers, strengthen polling unit structures and expand grassroots political engagement across the federation.
To drive the campaign, the organisation disclosed that it has designed a multi-layered operational structure stretching from the national level to polling units, with executive councils at zonal, state, local government and ward levels, alongside specialised directorates for youths, women, students, professionals and Nigerians in the diaspora.
SMPN also outlined a broad policy agenda centred on national unity, economic recovery, security, industrialisation, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, digital innovation, women’s inclusion and institutional reforms, insisting that leadership should be driven by ideas, performance and national interest rather than ethnic or religious considerations.
Membership of the network, according to its promoters, is open to all Nigerians who share its vision of peaceful democratic participation and support the aspiration of seeing Makinde emerge as Nigeria’s president in 2027.
Adopting the motto, “United for Progress, Mobilized for Victory,” and the slogan, “One Vision, One Nigeria, One Victory – SMPN 2027,” the movement said it would continue expanding its grassroots reach as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the next presidential contest.
