Uzodimma Leads APC Campaign Council for Osun Guber Poll as Alli, Buhari, Others Make List

With less than three weeks to the Osun State governorship election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a high-powered national campaign council headed by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, in a move aimed at strengthening the party’s push for victory at the August 15 poll.

Also named into the campaign structure are prominent party leaders, including former Yobe State Governor and APC National Chairman, Mai Mala Buni; Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin; and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Hon. Ibrahim Kabir Masari, alongside Oyo APC governorship candidate, Senator Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, former Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s son, Idris Abiola Ajimobi, Senator Fatai Buhari, and several other party stalwarts.

Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum, will lead the council, while Buni, Akpabio and Abbas will serve as Co-Chairmen. Masari was named Deputy Chairman, with Senator Barau Jibrin appointed Secretary of the campaign council.

According to a statement signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the council brings together an array of influential party figures, including governors, members of the national working committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, as well as other key stakeholders drawn from across the federation to coordinate the party’s campaign and deliver victory at the polls.

Beyond constituting the main campaign council, APC also announced the establishment of specialised sub-committees to oversee critical aspects of the electioneering process.

Areas covered include election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, logistics, grassroots mobilisation, media and publicity, security, protocol, monitoring and compliance, youth mobilisation, women mobilisation, mobilisation of persons with disabilities, as well as secretariat operations.

Political observers believe the composition of the council reflects the ruling party’s determination to deploy its strongest political machinery for the Osun governorship contest, widely seen as one of the most closely watched off-cycle elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In an earlier notice, the party fixed the inauguration of the national campaign council and its sub-committees for Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre, Abuja.

The event is scheduled to commence at 12 noon and is expected to attract top-ranking government officials, party leaders and campaign coordinators from across the country.

With an expansive campaign structure now in place, the APC is expected to intensify consultations, grassroots mobilisation and strategic engagements across Osun State as it seeks to secure victory in the governorship election slated for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
