Oranyan Market Inferno: Alli Donates N50m to Traders, Promises Support for Recovery

Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, has donated N50 million to traders affected by the devastating fire that ravaged parts of Oranyan Market, Ibadan.

Alli made the donation during a sympathy visit to the market on Monday, where he inspected the extent of the destruction and met with traders who lost goods, shops and other means of livelihood in the inferno.

Accompanied by his running mate, Hon. Adedeji Adesoji Mandate, and the Oyo South Senatorial candidate, Hon. Engr. Aderemi Oseni, the APC candidate expressed concern over the scale of the losses suffered by the traders.

Alli described the incident as a painful setback for hardworking residents whose businesses provide daily income for their families and contribute significantly to the local economy.

Rather than limiting the visit to words of sympathy, Alli and his team announced a N50 million intervention to help cushion the immediate impact of the disaster and assist the victims in commencing the rebuilding of their businesses.

He said the gesture was motivated by the need to stand with the affected traders at a moment when many of them were confronted with the daunting task of starting afresh.

For the traders, the donation comes at a critical point as they begin to assess the extent of their losses and consider how to restore their sources of livelihood.

Alli’s intervention also adds a humanitarian dimension to the ongoing political activities in Oyo State, with the APC candidate using the occasion to emphasise the importance of solidarity with citizens during moments of crisis.

He expressed sympathy with every trader affected by the fire, praying for strength, resources and a successful recovery as they work to rebuild what was lost.

The Oranyan Market incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of trading communities to fire disasters and the enormous financial burden such incidents place on small-business owners.

For the affected traders, however, the immediate priority remains recovery—and the N50 million intervention from Alli is expected to provide a significant starting point in that difficult journey.
