Movida Nightclub Boss Akeem Shodeinde Dies At 44

Akeem Shodeinde, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the popular Movida Nightclub on Victoria Island, Lagos, has died at the age of 44.

Shodeinde, who was a prominent figure on Lagos’ social scene and nightlife circuit, reportedly died yesterday following complications associated with diabetes and kidney failure.

Before his death, the nightclub entrepreneur had battled health challenges for several years.

His condition became particularly serious in 2012, forcing him to stay away from the social scene for almost a year.

He subsequently recovered sufficiently to return to public life, although reports indicated that he had been living with only one functioning kidney.

Shodeinde had also spoken publicly about the difficulty of giving up some of his lifestyle habits while dealing with his health challenges.

In an interview with City People Magazine in 2013, shortly after recovering from a serious health episode, he reportedly acknowledged the need to make significant changes to his lifestyle.

He also spoke about his desire to quit smoking and drinking and become closer to God.

Despite his health struggles, Shodeinde remained a well-known name in Lagos’ entertainment and nightlife industry, with Movida becoming one of the prominent nightlife destinations associated with the city’s social scene.

His death is expected to be felt across Lagos’ entertainment, nightlife and social circles, where he had built a wide network of relationships over the years.

Shodeinde is survived by his only daughter. He would have turned 45 on December 28.

May his soul rest in peace.
