Mushin, Lagos, has been thrown into mourning following the death of Alhaji Chief Taoreed Faronbi, popularly known as Baba Alado, a prominent socialite, land developer and influential grassroots political figure in the community.
Faronbi’s reported death was announced in a post circulated by Maxfocus Media, which described the respected Mushin figure as having “gone to be with his Maker.”
Details surrounding his death, including his age, cause of death and funeral arrangements, were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
Baba Alado was a familiar name in Lagos’ social, traditional and political circles, particularly in Mushin, where he had built a reputation as a major community stakeholder.
His influence extended beyond social gatherings into grassroots politics and traditional family affairs.
He served as the Olori-Ebi of the Alagbeji Royal Family, a position that placed him at the centre of important traditional and family matters. In 2024, Faronbi publicly spoke on behalf of the Alagbeji Royal Family during the process surrounding the vacant Osolo stool in Isolo Kingdom.
His prominence was also well documented in the Lagos social scene.
He was a well known leading socialite and land developer who had remained relevant in the social circuit for decades with strong links with leading Fuji musicians and personalities.
Faronbi was particularly associated with some of Nigeria’s biggest Fuji stars, including K1, Saheed Osupa and Pasuma, with his appearances at major social events often attracting considerable attention.
Beyond the entertainment and social circuit, Baba Alado was also identified in previous reports as a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and a political figure with a sizeable following in Mushin.
His name occasionally featured prominently in reports on political and security developments in Mushin and Lagos.
During the 2020 #EndSARS protests, for instance, allegations circulated on social media linking him to attacks on protesters, allegations he strongly denied in an interview with The PUNCH.
Away from politics and controversy, Faronbi was also known for his deep involvement in traditional and community affairs. His role as head of the Alagbeji Royal Family gave him a significant voice in matters concerning the family and its relationship with the wider traditional institution.
For many who encountered him through Lagos’ social and political circles, however, Baba Alado was more than a political name. He was a recognisable personality whose presence at ceremonies, traditional gatherings and high-profile social events became part of the fabric of Lagos society.
His reported passing therefore marks the loss of a personality who straddled several worlds — traditional leadership, grassroots politics, property development and the vibrant Lagos social scene.
As tributes begin to emerge, attention is expected to turn to his family, associates, political allies and the wider Mushin community for further details concerning his death and burial arrangements.
