Ijebu-Ode-Born Top Socialite, Prince Bode Oshinusi, Dies

Popular socialite and businessman, Prince Bode Oshinusi, has died at the age of 80, just 10 days after celebrating his birthday.

Oshinusi, an Ijebu-Ode-born high chief and prominent figure on Nigeria’s social scene, reportedly died on June 3, 2015. He was expected to be buried on June 5 according to Islamic rites.

His death came shortly after he marked his 80th birthday on May 24, 2015, with a prayer and thanksgiving ceremony held at Yard 158, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos.

The birthday celebration attracted several notable personalities from Nigeria’s social and entertainment circles. Highlife music star King Sunny Ade was among those who performed at the event.

Oshinusi was widely recognised as one of the prominent socialites who shaped Nigeria’s social scene for several decades, particularly during the 1980s and 1990s.

His name was also familiar within the country’s entertainment industry, with several Nigerian musicians paying tribute to him through their music over the years.

Among the notable musical tributes associated with him was a special praise song performed by Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey.

Oshinusi’s passing marked the end of an era for one of the personalities who remained prominent in Nigeria’s social circles for decades.
