Latest On Diezani Alison-Madueke’s Saga

It has been one report after another since the news of the arrest of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, in London broke on Friday evening.

Diezani, who had been away from Nigeria shortly after leaving office, reportedly on health grounds, was said to have been arrested in London on Friday, October 2, 2015, alongside some other individuals by the UK National Crime Agency over allegations of bribery and money laundering.

Barely had the news of her arrest filtered in when another report emerged that the former minister’s residence in Asokoro, Abuja, had been visited by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC operation was reportedly connected with an ongoing investigation involving the former minister and was said to be part of a wider, multinational investigation into allegations surrounding her time in office.

The latest development, however, is that Diezani has reportedly been granted bail by the UK authorities.

Although she has been released on bail, reports indicate that investigations into the allegations are still ongoing and that she could face further legal proceedings in connection with the bribery and money-laundering allegations.

The unfolding development has continued to attract attention in Nigeria, with more details expected from both the UK and Nigerian authorities as the investigations progress.
