Music Producer OJB Jezreel Dies At 49

Nigerian music producer and song writer Babatunde Okungbowa, popularly known as OJB Jezreel, has died at the age of 49.

A source close to the family confirmed his death, saying his condition had deteriorated in recent days following complications with the kidney transplant he underwent several years ago.

According to the source, the producer had been receiving dialysis treatment as his family and doctors worked to manage his condition.

His remains have reportedly been deposited at the Isolo General Hospital morgue in Lagos.

OJB’s death comes about a month before his 50th birthday.

The respected producer had undergone a kidney transplant in India in 2013 after one of his wives donated a kidney to him.

The transplant enabled him to return to his career and continue his work in Nigeria’s music industry, where he had established himself as one of the country’s respected producers.

OJB Jezreel was known for his work with several leading Nigerian artistes and was regarded as an influential figure in the development of the country’s contemporary music scene.

He is survived by his wives, June ‘Ama’, Korede and Mabel, as well as his children.

News of his death is already generating reactions among colleagues, artistes and other members of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

May his soul rest in peace.
