The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign Waripamowei Dudafa, former Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, over an alleged N1.6 billion fraud.
Dudafa is expected to be charged alongside Iwejuo Nna, who is also known at various times as Taiwo Ebenezer and Olugbenga Isaiah.
The defendants are to be arraigned before Justice Mohammed Idris at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
According to the first count of the charge, the accused persons allegedly conspired on or about June 11, 2013, in Lagos, “to conceal the sum of N1.667bn said to be the proceeds of crime.”
The alleged offence is said to be contrary to Section 18(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Amendment) Act, 2012, and punishable under Section 17(a) of the same Act.
In other counts, Dudafa was also accused of allegedly using six companies to conceal varying sums of money between June 2013 and April 2016.
The companies listed in the charges are Seagate Property Development and Investment Limited, Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited, Ebiwise Resources, Pluto Property and Investment Company, Rotato Interlink Services and De Jakes Fast Food and Restaurant Nigeria Limited.
The EFCC had reportedly lined up 21 witnesses, including representatives of some banks, to testify against the defendants.
A former Aide-de-Camp to Jonathan, Colonel Ojogbane Adegbe, who was arrested in February over the same alleged offence, had since been retired by the Nigerian Army.
Dudafa was also reportedly arrested by the EFCC at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos in April while attempting to travel out of the country.
His arrest was linked to allegations surrounding the sharing of about N10 billion to delegates at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary in 2014, where Jonathan was the sole candidate.
The allegations remain subject to judicial determination, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
