The Federal Government on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, signed a N25 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tuns Farms Nigeria Limited, owned by Osogbo-based billionaire and Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Khamis Olatunde Badmus, as part of efforts to boost national egg production.
The agreement was signed in Abuja by the then Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, on behalf of the Federal Government.
Ogbeh explained that the partnership was necessary as the Federal Government was preparing to commence its school feeding programme, under which pupils would be provided with an egg daily or, at least, three eggs per week.
According to the minister, the agreement, which would be financed by the Bank of Industry, was expected to enable Tuns Farms establish a network of poultry farmers through an out-growers scheme.
He said the initiative was targeted at generating one million jobs and producing 50 million table eggs daily by 2018.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Chairman of Tuns Farms, Asiwaju Olatunde Badmus, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
Badmus pointed to the numerous landmark achievements recorded by Tuns Farms over the years as evidence of the company’s commitment to contributing to the development of agriculture in Nigeria.
