Arms Deal Probe: MicCom Golf Boss’ Son Biodun Ponnle Named in Report

The ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in military arms procurement has reportedly brought the name of Abiodun Ponnle, son of the owner of MicCom Golf Hotel and Resort, into the spotlight.

Ponnle and his company, Berwick Integrated Services Ltd., were reportedly listed among individuals and companies mentioned in the latest findings of the Presidential Committee on the Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement from 2007 to 2015.

The report also reportedly named a number of serving and retired military officers, as well as serving and former public officials, in connection with transactions relating to funds allocated for defence procurement.

The development is contained in what was described as the “3rd Interim Report of the Presidential Committee on the Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement from 2007 to 2015.”

The committee was set up by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to examine the procurement of arms, ammunition and other military equipment during the period under review.

Its work is part of the Federal Government’s wider effort to establish how funds meant for military procurement were handled and whether contracts awarded during the period were properly executed.

Ponnle’s name appearing in the report has therefore attracted attention, particularly because of his association with Berwick Integrated Services Ltd.

However, being mentioned in an investigative report does not, on its own, establish that an individual committed an offence.

Further investigations and any subsequent legal proceedings would determine whether there is a case to answer.

The latest development comes as the arms procurement probe continues to generate fresh revelations and attract public attention.
