Peter Okoye Blasts Brothers, Congo Show Organisers Over Alleged Misrepresentation

One half of the then-troubled music duo P-Square, Peter Okoye, known professionally as Mr. P, was embroiled in another dispute with his twin brother, Paul Okoye, and their former manager, Jude Okoye, over a concert scheduled to hold in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Peter took to his Instagram page in the early hours of July 8, 2016, to dissociate himself from a series of concerts in Congo where P-Square was listed as a headline act.

He said he had not endorsed the use of the P-Square name for the shows because the contractual terms presented to him were not favourable.

Peter also accused Paul and Jude of misrepresenting the reason for his absence, saying claims that he was ill and unable to travel for the concert were untrue.

He insisted that he was “101% healthy” and said he was prepared to take legal action over what he described as character assassination and malicious misrepresentation.

In a statement directed at his fans in Congo and around the world, Peter said:

“My attention has been drawn to a much publicised show holding today 8th July, 2016 (VIP SHOW) and tomorrow 9th July, 2016 (in Goma), and on the 17th of August in Kinshasa wherein the name Psquare was used maliciously and mischievously to garner patronage and huge fans attendance.”

He further stated that the stage name Rudeboy was used when his twin brother Paul performed alone, stressing that he had not authorised the use of the jointly owned P-Square name and images for the events.

Peter said he was therefore not part of the shows allegedly booked by their former manager, Jude Okoye.

He added that he had not given his express written consent or permission for the use of the P-Square name and images for promotional and commercial purposes.

Addressing reports that he had missed his flight because of illness, Peter said:

“Contrary to the wild allegations making the rounds that I could not attend the show because I am sick and missed my flight along with my crew members, I wish to counter same and state categorically, that I am 101% healthy.”

Peter concluded by saying he would take “appropriate legal actions” against the promoters and sponsors of the events, including Airtel Congo, over what he described as character assassination and malicious misrepresentation.

The latest dispute added to the growing tensions surrounding the P-Square brand and the relationship between Peter, Paul and Jude Okoye at the time.
