110 Golfers Expected for Maiden Ibadan Mesiogo Open

About 110 golfers from Nigeria and other countries were expected to participate in the maiden edition of the Ibadan Mesiogo Open, scheduled to take place from October 4 to 8, 2017.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Abayomi Oke, disclosed this in Ibadan, saying the tournament was being organised in collaboration with the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) and 3E Actuaries.

According to the commissioner, 69 Nigerian golfers and 41 international players from 18 countries were expected to participate in the five-day event.

Oke said activities would begin with the IMEGA Women Empowerment and Fund Ceremony on October 4, while Governor Abiola Ajimobi was scheduled to officially tee off the professional golf competition at the Ibadan Golf Club on October 5.

The commissioner explained that the tournament was designed to combine sporting activities with initiatives aimed at promoting Ibadan and supporting social and economic development.

Another major activity was the IMEGA 2017 Awards Gala, scheduled for October 7, where individuals who had made notable contributions in various fields were expected to be recognised.

The programme would conclude on October 8 with the IMEGA Amateur Open for amateur golfers at the Ibadan Golf Club.

Organisers said the tournament was expected to attract golfers and other stakeholders to Ibadan, providing an opportunity to showcase the city while promoting golf and related activities.
