Oyo Threatens to Blacklist Contractors Over Poor-Quality Projects

The Oyo State Government has warned contractors handling government projects against poor workmanship and delays, saying firms that fail to meet stipulated standards could be blacklisted.

The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Wasiu Dauda, gave the warning during an inspection of ongoing road projects across Ibadan metropolis, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Oyesola Oyedele.

Dauda urged contractors to complete projects within their contractual timelines and ensure that all work conforms to the specifications contained in their agreements with the state government.

He stressed that the government would not accept projects that fell below the required quality standards, noting that infrastructure being provided with public funds must meet the needs and expectations of residents.

During the inspection, the commissioner visited several road projects, including the Challenge-Efunsetan to Orita Challenge Phase II road; Ibadan-Eleyele-Eruwa Road; Idi-Ape-Bashorun-Odogbo Barracks Road; Oke-Adu-Agodi Gate-Iwo Road interchange; and the Agodi Gate-Old Ice Road-Alakia Airport Road.

Dauda expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded on some of the projects and commended contractors whose work, according to him, was complementing the state government’s infrastructure development efforts.

He, however, directed the contractor handling the Challenge-Efunsetan Phase II road project to submit a schedule detailing work already completed before seeking access to additional funds.

At the Idi-Ape-Bashorun road project, the commissioner expressed concern over the pace of work and directed the contractor to increase the tempo of construction to ensure completion within the agreed timeframe.

Dauda also assured residents that the road projects initiated by the administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi would continue despite the economic challenges facing the state and the country at the time.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to completing the projects and ensuring that contractors remained accountable for the quality and timely delivery of their work.
