The Sultan Bello Hall of the University of Ibadan has honoured the Publisher of Parrot Xtra Magazine, Olayinka Agboola, alongside other distinguished Nigerians for their contributions to the development of the country and humanity.
Agboola was honoured at the Ivory Tower Awards and Distinguished Lectures held on Saturday at the Sultan Bello Dome, University of Ibadan.
The event, which had the theme, “Nigeria at 58: Prospects Beyond the Golden Jubilee, Place of the Youths,” brought together academics, public officials and other notable personalities to reflect on the country’s development and the role of young Nigerians.
Professors Soji Adejumo and Dipo Otolorin, alongside Honourable Olasupo Abiodun, delivered lectures and shared perspectives on the theme during the programme.
For Agboola, the occasion also provided an opportunity for his former hall of residence to recognise his achievements several years after his undergraduate days at the university.
The Parrot Xtra publisher received the “Worthy Ambassador” award in recognition of what the organisers described as his achievements and contributions to Nigeria and humanity.
Agboola was a resident of Sultan Bello Hall between 1985 and 1989 while studying Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Ibadan.
His recognition formed part of the broader honours presented to individuals who had distinguished themselves in academia, public service, professional practice and other areas of national development.
Other award recipients included Professor L.A. Akinbile, Professor Dipo Otolorin, Professor Soji Adejumo, Professor Idowu Olayinka, Dr Gbolahan Ogunsanya, Dr A.O. Afolabi, Honourable Olasupo Abiodun, Mr Ola Oresanya and Mr Ademola Egbeleke.
Beyond the awards, the gathering served as a platform for intellectual engagement on Nigeria’s prospects and the place of young people in shaping the country’s future.
