Oyo First Lady Florence Ajimobi Set to Host OYSOWA 2018

The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Dr. Florence Ajimobi, was set to host the 2018 annual conference of the Oyo State Officials’ Wives Association (OYSOWA).

The seventh edition of the women’s conference, tagged “Against All Odds,” was scheduled to hold from November 28 to 30, 2018, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Organisers said the conference would feature prominent women from different sectors, including veteran actress Joke Silva, broadcaster and entrepreneur Adenike Oyetunde, entrepreneur Adeola Faleye, business leaders and wives of governors from different parts of Nigeria.

OYSOWA, an initiative associated with Mrs. Ajimobi, was established to provide a platform for discussions on issues affecting women, including their participation in politics, economic development and wider societal affairs.

Since the summit was launched seven years earlier, the organisers said more than 10,000 women had benefited from various empowerment initiatives involving business knowledge, skills and financial support.

The 2017 edition attracted wives of about 21 state governors, according to the organisers, as well as former First Lady of Liberia, Senator Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, and former Vice President of Zimbabwe, Mrs. Joice Mujuru.

Governors and other prominent personalities from different sectors also attended the 2017 conference.
The OYSOWA initiative formed part of the programmes through which Mrs. Ajimobi supported women and complemented the administration of her husband, then Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

Other initiatives associated with the former Oyo First Lady included the Ajumose Food Basket, the Access to Basic Medical Care Foundation (ABC) and the Educate a Rural Child Foundation, among other projects.

With the 2018 edition themed “Against All Odds,” the conference was expected to provide another platform for women to share experiences, discuss challenges and explore opportunities for personal and community development.
