The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described a fresh legal action reportedly instituted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the Osun West Senatorial seat occupied by Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke as an exercise in futility.
The PDP state chairman at the time, Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo, made the position known while speaking with journalists, describing the latest action as a waste of time and an alleged abuse of court process.
Adagunodo said previous courts had already considered the issue of Adeleke’s eligibility to contest the senatorial election and ruled in his favour.
He therefore argued that the new suit amounted to what he described as “forum shopping and abuse of court process.”
According to him, the matter had been subjected to judicial scrutiny on several occasions, making the latest legal challenge unnecessary.
“I wish to put it to all those that are involved in this latest act of misdemeanor wherever they are to reflect and look back at their past efforts which have failed them,” Adagunodo said.
The PDP chairman recalled that legal challenges against Adeleke had been ongoing since 2017, when he was nominated as the party’s candidate for the Osun West Senatorial District.
He expressed confidence that the latest challenge would suffer the same fate as previous attempts, insisting that Adeleke had secured his mandate through the electoral and judicial processes.
Adagunodo also accused the APC of desperation, arguing that the opposition party had failed to achieve its objective at the polls and through previous court proceedings.
He urged PDP supporters and other residents of Osun State to remain calm and continue to support Adeleke as the legal process continued.
The chairman further assured supporters of the PDP and Adeleke, both within Nigeria and abroad, that the fresh court action would not affect their political activities or their confidence in the senator.
Adagunodo said the eventual swearing-in of Adeleke remained a significant milestone for the party and expressed optimism that the outstanding legal proceedings would be resolved in his favour.
He consequently appealed to residents and supporters of the PDP to continue praying for the party and Senator Adeleke as the legal process progressed.
