I’ve Delivered My Promises To Ogbomosoland — Makinde

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has told residents of Ogbomosoland that his administration has fulfilled several of the promises it made to the people during the 2019 election campaign.

Makinde, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he would consolidate the achievements of his first term and pursue further development across the state under his proposed Omituntun 2.0 agenda.

The governor spoke while addressing PDP supporters during campaign visits to communities in Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire Local Government Areas.

He urged residents to support his re-election bid, as well as the PDP candidates contesting the National Assembly and Oyo State House of Assembly elections.

According to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Taiwo Adisa, Makinde made the remarks during campaign stops at Oja-Igbo in Ogbomoso, Ahoro Dada, Tewure, Olokoto and Ikoyi-Ile.

Addressing supporters at Oja-Igbo, the governor said his administration would continue to pursue policies aimed at moving residents from poverty towards greater economic opportunities if re-elected.

Makinde recalled that during the 2019 campaign, he promised to resolve the ownership crisis surrounding Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH).

“When I came here to flag off our campaign in 2019, I promised you that we would work on ending the crisis in LAUTECH by ensuring that it is solely owned by Oyo State. Have we not achieved that?” he asked.

The governor also highlighted road projects in Ogbomosoland as part of the achievements of his administration.

He cited the rehabilitation of the LAUTECH-Under G Road and the ongoing construction of the 76-kilometre Ogbomoso-Fapote-Iseyin Road.

“We promised to build infrastructure that target our economy. You can see that LAUTECH-Under G Road that we constructed and the Ogbomoso-Fapote-Iseyin Road,” he said.

Makinde also pointed to developments in the education sector, saying his administration had taken steps to reduce the financial burden on families.

“In the education sector, we promised to improve the standard of education and the first thing we did was to scrap the N3,000 education levy imposed by the previous government,” he said.

He added that the government had constructed model schools, classrooms and other educational facilities as part of its efforts to improve learning conditions across the state.

Makinde Promises More Under Omituntun 2.0
Speaking during his campaign stops in Ahoro Dada, Olokoto, Tewure and Ikoyi-Ile in Oriire Local Government Area, Makinde said the projects implemented during his first term represented only part of his administration’s plans for the state.

He promised that a second term would focus on consolidating the projects and policies already introduced while pursuing additional development initiatives.

“In 2019, I made some promises to you, among which I said I would take our people from poverty to prosperity under Omituntun 1.0,” the governor said.

He used the Ogbomoso-Fapote-Iseyin Road to illustrate the potential impact of improved transportation infrastructure on economic activity.

According to him, the road would make it easier for farmers in the area to transport their produce to markets in urban centres.

Makinde also recalled his administration’s commitment to establishing a primary healthcare centre in every ward.

“I also promised there would be one PHC in each ward and we have done this,” he said.

On security, the governor said his administration had supported security agencies through initiatives aimed at improving communication and coordination.

He also referred to the activities of the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun, as part of the state’s security efforts.

“All of these have been achieved under Omituntun 1.0. So, we want to upgrade to Omituntun 2.0,” Makinde said.

The governor also appealed to supporters to vote for the PDP candidates in the senatorial, House of Representatives and state House of Assembly elections.

He specifically endorsed Hon. Akinwale Akinwole Wolekanle for the Oyo North Senatorial District election, Hon. Onireti for the House of Representatives and Hon. Ogundele Johnson for the Oyo State House of Assembly.

Makinde urged voters to support the party’s candidates during the February 25 National Assembly election and the March 11 governorship and state assembly elections.

He also made a reference to the political history of Oyo State while urging supporters to remain focused on the PDP ticket.

With the 2023 elections approaching, the governor’s campaign across Ogbomosoland is part of the wider effort by the PDP and other political parties to consolidate support ahead of the polls.
