President Bola Tinubu has expressed delight over the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, commending security agencies for ending the over 50-day ordeal without casualties among the victims.
The President praised the military, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police for what he described as a painstaking, intelligence-led operation that secured the victims’ freedom after 56 days in captivity.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said the operation also led to the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers, while several others were neutralised.
He described the rescue as a major victory against criminal elements and a source of relief to the affected families and the nation.
“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, Ogbomoso, after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation that neutralised some of the terrorists and led to the arrest of eight of them,” the President said.
According to him, the successful operation brought to an end more than 50 days of anxiety and uncertainty, while reaffirming his administration’s determination to protect lives and tackle insecurity.
President Tinubu expressed sympathy to the rescued children, their teachers and their families over the traumatic experience they endured, assuring them that those behind the crime would face the full weight of the law.
He also pledged justice for the family of Mr. Oyedokun, the teacher reportedly murdered by the abductors during the period of captivity.
The President lauded the Oyo State Government for its collaboration with the Federal Government throughout the rescue efforts and urged the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar incidents.
Tinubu further directed relevant emergency agencies to work closely with the Oyo State Government in providing medical care, counselling and other relief support for the rescued pupils and teachers as they begin the process of recovery.
