Olajumoke ‘Onibread’ Returns to Bread Seller Role, Seeks Public Support for New Content Journey

Nearly a decade after a chance encounter transformed her life from bread seller to celebrated model, Olajumoke Orisaguna, popularly known as “Olajumoke Onibread,” is revisiting the identity that first made her famous — this time for social media content.

Olajumoke has begun posting lighthearted clips on social media in which she plays the role of a celebrity bread seller, recreating elements of the persona that Nigerians have associated with her remarkable rise to fame since 2016.

Rather than an indication that she has returned to bread hawking as a means of livelihood, her latest move appears to be a deliberate content-creation strategy built around the extraordinary story that introduced her to the public.

She is also seeking support from fans and members of the public as she embarks on what appears to be a fresh chapter in her digital career, encouraging Nigerians to follow, engage with and support her new content journey.

Olajumoke became a national sensation in February 2016 after inadvertently walking into a photoshoot involving British rapper Tinie Tempah and renowned Nigerian photographer TY Bello while selling bread in Lagos.
What appeared to be an ordinary moment on the streets of Lagos soon became a life-changing encounter.

Bello was struck by the bread seller’s appearance after seeing the photographs and subsequently embarked on efforts to find her.

Olajumoke was eventually tracked down, paving the way for her entry into modelling and the Nigerian fashion industry.

Within a remarkably short period, she moved from hawking bread to appearing on magazine covers, modelling for major brands and becoming one of the most recognisable faces of Nigeria’s 2016 pop-culture moment.

Her transformation generated widespread admiration, with her story celebrated as one of the most remarkable examples of an unexpected breakthrough in contemporary Nigerian popular culture.

Life after the spotlight, however, proved considerably more complicated.

After her initial fame waned, Olajumoke largely disappeared from public view before gradually returning to the media space.

She later opened up about difficult experiences in her personal life, including alleged exploitation by people who managed her affairs and an abusive marriage, which she said she eventually left.

Her return to social media therefore represents more than another celebrity appearance. It is also an attempt to reclaim a story that has followed her for almost a decade and turn one of the most recognisable chapters of her life into a new creative opportunity.
In recent months, Olajumoke has used social media to reconnect with Nigerians, posting entertaining videos and giving followers glimpses into her personality beyond the “bread seller who became a model” headline.

Her latest “celebrity bread seller” skits take that connection a step further, deliberately bringing back the “Onibread” character that Nigerians have never quite forgotten.

For someone whose life changed because a photographer happened to capture her walking through a shoot nearly ten years ago, Olajumoke is once again betting on the power of the camera — only this time, she is holding the narrative herself.

She, of course, wants Nigerians to come along on the journey.

Her appeal for public support suggests that she hopes to build a new audience and establish herself on the fast-growing content-creation scene, using humour, nostalgia and her extraordinary personal story as part of the brand.

Olajumoke’s latest move may therefore not be a return to where she started, but a clever attempt to transform where she started into something new.

The bread may be back, but this time, “Onibread” appears to be selling a story, a personality and a new chapter — not simply loaves of bread.
