Mogaji Akin Fagbemi, PhD, has received a Merit Award from the Association of Mogajis of Ibadanland, Ibadan North-West Chapter, in recognition of his contributions to community development and his support for grassroots initiatives.
Fagbemi, who is also a chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), was honoured during the association’s anniversary celebration held at Adepoju Hall, Ibadan North-West Local Government, Onireke, on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Adding substance to the celebration, Fagbemi donated N1,000,000 to support the anniversary programme, describing the gesture as his contribution towards the success of an institution deeply connected to Ibadan’s history, culture and grassroots identity.
Speaking at the event, he declared that his relationship with the Mogajis goes beyond politics, stressing that he remains part of the traditional family and would continue to stand by them whenever he has the opportunity.
“I am part of you, and I will continue to support our Mogajis. This donation is my own contribution towards the success of this anniversary and a demonstration of my commitment to our traditional institution,” Fagbemi said.
His remarks came as the association presented him with a Merit Award for his “sincere and developmental efforts towards the progress of our community, local government and the state.”
According to the inscription on the award presented to him, Fagbemi was recognised as Mogaji Agunleyinju Alekuso, with the honour reflecting his contributions to development beyond purely political engagements.
Fagbemi said his bond with the Mogajis was founded on shared heritage, identity and a common desire to see Ibadanland make meaningful progress.
“Our relationship goes beyond politics. We share the same heritage, the same identity and the same concern for the progress of Ibadanland. I will continue to support our Mogajis whenever I have the opportunity to do so,” he added.
He described Mogajis as important custodians of Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage and grassroots identity, urging them to continue using their influence to promote peace, unity and development in their respective communities.
Fagbemi also commended the Association of Ibadan North-West Mogajis for sustaining its anniversary tradition and creating a platform for unity among Mogajis and traditional families within the axis.
While emphasising the relevance of traditional institutions in modern community development, he called for stronger collaboration among traditional rulers, Mogajis, political leaders and other stakeholders.
He maintained that such cooperation would help deepen peaceful coexistence, strengthen community leadership and accelerate sustainable development across Ibadanland.
Receiving the donation, the leadership of the Association of Ibadan North-West Mogajis expressed appreciation to Fagbemi, describing his gesture as evidence of his enduring commitment to the association and Ibadan’s traditional heritage.
Members of the association said the financial support would contribute to the success of the anniversary while further strengthening the relationship between Fagbemi and the Mogajis.
