Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team, have dealt a major blow to Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Adamawa State, neutralising more than 21 fighters and destroying a terrorist camp.
The joint offensive was carried out in the Kopre Mountain general area of Hong Local Government Area in the early hours of Thursday, August 27, following credible intelligence on the location of the terrorists’ enclave.
The operation, involving the ONSA Tactical Team and newly inducted troops of 226 Battalion deployed to Sector 4, Adamawa, was conducted under the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM.
In a statement issued on August 27, the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the troops successfully penetrated the rugged terrain before launching a precision assault on the camp.
According to him, the offensive was part of intensified efforts to locate and rescue persons abducted by terrorist groups, including victims taken from Mussa community in May and schoolchildren abducted in Lassa in June 2026.
Troops reportedly engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters during the operation, resulting in the death of more than 21 fighters. Several others, who sustained gunshot wounds, reportedly fled into the surrounding terrain.
Following the successful assault, the joint force took control of the area, dismantled the terrorist enclave and destroyed its logistics infrastructure, further weakening the group’s operational capacity in the region.
Several motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans filled with Premium Motor Spirit, believed to have been used for terrorist logistics and mobility, were also destroyed. Troops recovered a number of AK-47 rifles, magazines and a substantial quantity of 7.62mm Special ammunition from the location.
Beyond the destruction of the camp, the operation demonstrated the ability of the joint force to penetrate difficult mountainous terrain and take the fight directly to terrorist strongholds.
The Military High Command commended the troops and ONSA Tactical Team for what it described as their gallantry, professionalism, resilience and seamless coordination during the operation.
OPHK said its offensive would continue as search and rescue operations intensify, particularly in the effort to locate and free abducted persons.
It reassured residents that intelligence-driven operations would be sustained to dismantle remaining terrorist strongholds, disrupt their logistics and deny them freedom of movement across the North-East.
